When you start using Entrecard, you think that the most “popular” blogs are the ones receiving the most traffic. Unfortunately, that’s not really true. Sure, they are receiving the most ENTRECARD traffic, but probably not much in the realm of traffic from other sources, this includes my blog. Popularity rating is just how many users are dropping on you per day. When I advertise on the more “popular” blogs I get more drops in turn, mainly because there are a lot of “chain droppers” out there. All this dropping is good fun, but is it really accomplishing anything? Maybe a little, but I know most people that drop me are fly by droppers. Probably most of my traffic is bounced, though google analytics says it’s not I’m going to guess the 2 page views is actually 1 analytics just records 2 for some reason. Which would mean my bounce rate is extremely high.
The thing is, I’ve seen blogs that are supposedly popular, and yet the site itself looks highly inactive
That means that the only reason people are going there is for the all mighty widget, so they can drop.
I would like Entrecard to implement something like ProjectWonderful traffic stats. It’s pretty difficult to find out which sites are actually receiving traffic from other sources. Maybe I would like to advertise on a blog that’s not receiving all Entrecard traffic. It’s pretty difficult to find such a blog with EC’s current system. On top of that, the most popular blogs have an insanely high EC credit amount to advertise on, and it’s just not worth it to spend your EC there. In my opinion, you should stay below 512EC, but I’ve spent over a thousand EC on an advertisement before, just because I had extra credits and I didn’t know what to do with them. I suppose I should have gave them away
Choose wisely when advertising on Entrecard. In a way, you’re better off advertising on a ton of 2-32EC blogs, then ever bothering with the more popular ones. Unless you are trying to get your popularity rating up, advertising on the top blogs might get it up for you.
Entrecard’s system doesn’t work all that well, and that’s why a lot of people have dropped Entrecard and stopped using it completely.

Good writing. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed my Google News Reader..

Nowadays I just have a list of pages I go to…. “my everyday droplist”…. this still means that most of the time I only check the front page AND (if interesting) the latest posts…. So still not a good one for your bounce rate…. And most of the time I do this droplist 2 times a day….; gives me my drops AND I check my favorite pages 2x daily (probably you see me come by 2 times a day = as you are on that list…)
On the other hand – a regular visitor is worth a lot also…..
But 300 drops…. nah – not gonna do that anymore…
And yep – weird that some of the most expensive ones are sites which hardly do updates….
Sjeltur’s last blog post..Ontopic; gives suggestion to visitor from Google/Yahoo/etc
It is good for those who are just starting out and will take any traffic they can get. But, once your site has the traffic you want, you are not going to be dropping all day… I am surprised encard doesn’t do something to ensure better traffic and visits…
I find myself searching google a lot to find blogs with entrecard. Obviously since I found them easily through google, they’re getting traffic from google
I do 300 drops when I can, but not always, I sort of “skipped” two days while I was working on my server.
I’m still going to use entrecard until my site gets more established in the search engines. I think once the number of unique visitors from Entrecard equals the number from search engines I will quit dropping 300. As it is, I’m only getting about 10-20 uniqe from google, which is pretty bad
Good point. What I found highly useful about entrecard is the blogosphere community. I didn’t know there are so many great blogs out there!
So, it’s pretty cool for me to browse around, read some and see what others have to say about the world we live in
And I agree with your evaluation. I prefer to advertise with blogs with lower ECs

Yea, browsing around blogs on entrecard can be quite interesting. I enjoy it.
hey nice post….absolutely browsing around others blogs on entrecard is quite interesting.

I’ve not been with Entrecard very long either, but I’ve discovered that the top droppers (and therefore the most popular) are the least likely to comment and very often don’t update very frequently at all. Some aren’t touched for weeks on end. That in itself wouldn’t be a problem, but then to say they are the most popular and command the highest ad price is ridiculous.
Hello! I’m not to Entrecard and trying to learn if it really works. Seems like a lot of work to keep traffic coming… I could be wrong though. I’ve found a lot of great blogs, however.
Sweepstakes Girl’s last blog post..I’m New To Entrecard!
There’s a tutorial for easy dropping on the site in the tutorials section if you want to know an easier way to drop 300. It’s called “Entrecard – What you should know”
I think you are thinking like sukrat, but I think you should cover the other side of the topic in the post too…
Hi I am new to entrecard I am not even sure if I am doing things right. I won’t be dropping 300 times a day though (I would never have the time! I have come across some really interesting blogs though
@LONGUBCLOWN I don’t know what you mean “sukrat”, and please be more specific about the “other side”. If I didn’t know any better I’d say your comment was spam, because your site points to some “breast enlargement” herbal site.
@GERI OHARA It only takes about 15-20min to drop 300, you can look in my tutorials section for “Entrecard – What you should know” Always try to explore blogs as well though
Good point.
Yes, it’s true that most are “dropping” merely for the sake of it.. just to boost EC’s and in the process, accumulate enough EC’s for “advertising” their own blog in other entrecard-enabled websites..
But then entrecard also provides members with the opportunity to browse other people’s blogs.. I, for one, browse blogs that interests me.. like your article here.. :p
Keep em articles coming.
I use it just to see who is out there and I do spend a bit of time reading their blog before I drop on them as well. Heck anything to get from 12 readers to 13 that’s free is worth a shot!
vegas art guy’s last blog post..Slow Start
I guess you made an exception here?
I’m actually kind of surprised at how popular this article seems to be
I am amazed with it. It is a good thing for my research. Thanks
I am unable to understand this post. But well some points are useful for me.
Nice site you have!
