It’s interesting, setting up a blog. I never really knew the steps necessary to really get any traffic. My last blog no one ever visited. It was run on a free host with PHP-Nuke. I never really made attempts at getting traffic. It was more like my diary of sorts, but it primarily had to do with technical information. Years later, I’ve setup this blog. So far, this blog has been 100% more successful, but my writing really hasn’t changed.
This shows that it is important to have a paid for host, it is important to have search engines, it is important to run at least some kind of ad campaign. Unfortunately, I really don’t see any other way to get the word out. It doesn’t seem to matter how good your writing is if it’s hosted on some free host and not even listed on Google.
I submitted my old site to google, and guess what, it was never even listed. Guess what happened this time? It was listed within days, and the googlebot visits me hourly it seems. MSN, Yahoo, and many other bots are visiting my site regularly. What’s the difference? Like I said my writing is exactly the same, on exactly the same type of topics. This site has only been up for a little more than a week, yet I’m getting all this attention all of a sudden. It really confuses me.
I guess paying for the host, having a domain, and running ad campaigns has a lot to do with the success of a website, not just the writing, or the layout for that matter.
Entrecard has worked well for me so far, and I’m not really into paying for ads. The adgitize ads off to the side are there to cover my hosting costs. There may be other ads that go up in the future, it depends.
If you know me personally, you know that I’m a tech head. I’m about as much of a computer geek as you can get. I keep up with a lot of different things on the web, a lot of different technology, and this site is here to share that info with you. I’m not here to make money, if I do end up with any profit from any ads you see, they will all go to buying tech, and being reviewed here. So in a way, the ads will support the site and support new information.
There’s almost always something that pops in my head that I could write about here, so don’t fret, I will be posting articles daily. I need to anyway, barely anyone I know personally understands a word I say.
