I may offer free webhosting for 1 month – the key here is *may*

I really have no idea who would be interested, but I am getting fairly close to having this server setup, main thing I’m having trouble with is trying to setup the  name servers on a .co.cc domain. I should really buy another .com domain to do this, but it’s all just an experiment, so I didn’t feel like spending another $10. I’ll post up my entire experience later, setting up a VPS has been very interesting.

Anyway, I figure that since I have this host I might as well try and get some use out of it.. There’s no way I could use that much bandwidth/resources. I thought about the $5/month deal, and I came to the conclusion that people would probably not sign up, and I want to at least try and use the resources available.  No Warez, No Crazy Scripts, Nothing Illegal. I think that’s about it. I will monitor accounts to a degree.

This is all just a possibility, I really don’t know if I can finish up the setup :) Probably 10 users max, and it still should be better than shared, because shared hosts pack em in pretty tight. (They wouldn’t really make a profit otherwise) I’m using a free control panel for Debian based machines called ehcp, so I don’t *think* offering webhosting breaks any rules.

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. It means that I have part of a dedicated server, with root access.

Disregard the *may* everything is setup, and appears to be working, so I will be accepting sign ups.

VPS Hosting

Some of you may have noticed that the site was down for a bit, I was going to switch hosts to my VPS, but there’s just too many things that aren’t working yet. Might have been kind of insane to do it with my site, I’m feeling like I need to pick up another domain

Well, curiosity got the best of me. I signed up for 1 month of VPS access. I chose the bare minimum, because that was the point. Unmanaged, no cp. I haven’t really gotten to do anything with it yet, I need to get everything up and running, mysql, php, etc all needs to be installed and configured manually. I also need to install an open source control panel. Either ISPConfig or EHCP. I don’t really know what I’m going to do with it when I get it running, maybe port the site over, maybe not. I’m just getting used to the fact that I only have a command prompt to work with. Yes, I’m familiar with Linux, but I never did everything with the command prompt.

Maybe I’ll just sell some web space on the cheap. I mean really cheap, I have 350GB transfer, 384MB ram, and 20GB hard drive space. I’m not sure what the processor is. It cost me $17 for one month, I thought it was worth it to play with, but if I sold web space for about $5/month to about 8 people that would cover the costs completely for this month and next month. (next month will be $35 I believe.) It should be much faster than shared web hosting, even with 9 websites (including mine). That would allow for about 39GB transfer/month per person. If there’s excess bandwidth. (which I’m sure there would be, you could probably go over that amount..) Also about 2GB storage per person.

If you’re interested e-mail me at admin at technologyinsanity dot com

If there’s no interest I’ll simply get rid of it after this month.

I don’t know why, I just tinker with things all the time.

If you have any other ideas about what I should do with this host leave it in the comments area :D
