Short V7 D22W12 Review

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Since I’ve talked about dual screens, and my computer specifications I’ve mentioned this monitor. This monitor is MUCH better than my older 19″ viewsonic LCD. It is crisper, clearer, brighter, and bigger. It was a nice deal too at only $132, thanks slickdeals.net . No dead pixels, 1680×1050 resolution, which is about perfect for my videocard, the HD4850. Clarity is hard to explain, the colors just look more vibrant, more real. It looks better than my old CRT. Of course it is still TFT, so it’s not the greatest, but it still looks great in my opinion.

Dual Monitor

What is it like to have dual monitors? Well it’s strange at first. It makes things much easier though. I had just recently upgraded my 19″ (1440X900) to a 22″ (1680X1050) monitor. That felt like I had much more room in itself. Then, I picked up a second DVI cable for my other monitor, so I could use that as well. It’s a strange feeling when you move your mouse to the end of the screen and it plops onto another screen.

We’re not talking about me extending my entire desktop resolution, some do that, but I’m not since I have 2 monitors with different resolutions. They both run separately, so if I maximize a window on one screen, it is maximized on that screen only. I have also installed an app which makes it so there is a task bar on the second monitor.

I can put a movie on one screen, and have the instant messaging/internet surfing on another. Gaming won’t work unless I run it in windowed mode, to be able to switch from one screen to another. Games maximize to the screen, and if I click on the other screen it minimizes the game on the other screen.

It’s very easy to setup, you just have to have a video card that supports dual monitor configurations. This means that it has 2 DVI/VGA out connectors. You could probably just get a PCI card that is capable of this if you’re not a PC gamer like me, because chances are if you are, you already have 2 output connectors.

My camera takes a crappy picture when it comes to LCD Monitors, but I’ll post it up. I’m in the process of cleaning up my desk space, it’s always full of ashes and crap though. (Should quit smoking)
