You might think that getting a high traffic blog is nearly impossible. Well it’s not. I have not been through this method completely myself, as it would take some time to perfect and I would try a few different sites due to the amount of time you need to test fully.

Tools

EverProfits Toolbar unfortunately, it only runs on Internet Explorer at this point.

SearchStatus plugin for FireFox

RankChecker plugin for FireFox

Here we go…

Find a niche that has a high amount of searches but does NOT have a ton of competition. This is key, we are looking for something that is not saturated. You can analyze the competition easily with the EverProfits Toolbar It’s really useful for analyzing competition quickly, not just on the pure amount of sites for a keyword, but also analyzing PageRank and backlinks on the fly. SearchStatus is nice for analyzing specific websites with the keyword or niche you’re looking to target. Stuff like “Make Money” “Weight Loss” and others are obviously not going to be good targets. There’s something beyond that though, they’re called micro niches. If you wanted to target “Weight Loss” you could do it with a high search keyword or niche that is more specific.

Well, how do we find these niches/keywords? We could use the Google Adwords tool, Keyword Elite, Market Samurai or one of the other keyword research tools. I wouldn’t recommend using Keyword Elite for this kind of thing though since it doesn’t really show search volume. Market Samurai or the Adwords tool would be more suitable. Also, do a lot of research on these niches. You want to be able to continuously blog about this niche, and if there’s not a lot of information or you just aren’t familiar with the niche you’ll fail straight off. Do not limit yourself to one site, because one or two will be a bust, no doubt.

Domains

You want your keyword in your domain for sure. Google seems to love it when the keyword is straight in the domain. Of course, when choosing a domain you still want it to be short, at about 2 or 3 words. Just try and get the best keyword you can for your micro niche. The domain IS important. Please do a lot of research before committing to a domain

Next…

Don’t go off topic. Stick to your niche completely, don’t go off topic. Optimize SEO around your niche. Get backlinks from similar sites, do everything I mentioned in my previous article: http://technologyinsanity.com/seo/get-more-traffic-seo-tutorial-guide/. If you keep it up for a year or 6 months even, you should really start to see traffic coming in, depending on how well you executed your niche, and built backlinks. You can check your rank periodically with RankChecker.

Finally

It should be pretty obvious why this site isn’t a high traffic site. I’m not really doing anything in terms of research, targeting, sticking to a niche, etc. This is just a personal blog, I’m not really looking to monetize it to be honest. This guide was just put together from various books I’ve read on SEO and Adwords in the past. Like I said, I have not tried it since it takes quite some time and work to gain respect from the various search engines. I prefer Adwords and Google Sniping for marketing, which is somewhat similar to this, but I would expect you to target a niche that you could blog about. Google sniping is actually a bit different. This could actually provide a more long term marketing website. I’m fairly certain this is the formula that top websites use, but not 100%, and I’m sure something similar to this has already been published. Have fun with it though.
