My opinions on Myspace/Facebook

myspace

facebook

Most people now use one of these social sites to connect with others. The issue I have is that it’s generally full of SPAM. I include the random posts on my myspace “bulletin space”. Nothing of use is there, nothing at all. I agree, it is mildly entertaining to visit there once in a blue moon, but I would MUCH rather spend my time on a forum that actually had a purpose. I see lots of garbage like “I’m bored” (I am guilty of this as well, unfortunately) The apps on Facebook can be mildly entertaining, but it’s short lived. I shy away from adding a lot of friends on either of these networks mostly because I fear my profile will become a spam collection. I don’t have time to sort through the real posts and the fake ones.

A lot of people seem to think it’s great to have so many friends, but are these people really your friends? I doubt it. They’re just there to get more friends, and be on top of the world. What’s the point? That’s what I want to know really, what IS the point of myspace/facebook. I enjoy IM much more. On top of that, myspace profiles look like hell on earth a lot of the time. Buggy code, tons of youtube videos, double music tracks that play at the same time, “flashy” animations that are just annoying.. I mean c’mon people, if you don’t know how to control yourself then don’t add all those crappy html scripts that just lag down your page.

The only time I visit these sites is when I’m terribly bored, and I should be doing something else more productive. It’s usually not very fulfilling, and it just is a waste. Reading blogs on the other hand, I do quite often because I too want information on products and REAL reviews from REAL people like myself. Though I have seen some blogs out there that look very similar to myspace.
