Twitter.. Why is it so popular now?

You know, back when I started this blog I didn’t here much about twitter.  Then, I noticed more and more people using this service. I really don’t understand why all of a sudden twitter just exploded. Of course, it’s still exploding. More and more people are joining twitter everyday. Facebook has a similar structure, letting your friends know what you’re up to in the feeds section. Twitter is public though, and anyone can decide to follow you.

The best explanation for the traffic spike seems to be that it just caught on. Sort of like a fad, but maybe it will be long lasting.

For me, it’s really not that interesting. Of course I do have the twitter plugins for my blog, but that’s all really. If you look at my twitter page http://twitter.com/s0uThp4rk you can see I’m not really a “Power User”. Perhaps I should be though, it might help generate traffic to my website. Most of the people following me on there are most likely automatically adding people for certain keywords.

I’m not real into the main stream stuff I guess. If you feel like following me however, go ahead, it’s going to be basically the same thing as my RSS feed though :) Maybe some day I’ll get into it and start following people more.

Twitter is like a big, big chatroom. Everything from real-time updates of news to personal blogs and sites. There is a wealth of information to be found on Twitter, if you know who to follow. Check out my favorites if you want. Those are the twits of people I find interesting.

I have twitter, but I rarely use it. If you have more than a few followers and they use it a lot, it is worse than email to go and scroll through to read and see if there is anything in there worth commenting on. If you have it up all the time and sit to monitor it for real-time, I guess it would have some use.
