Dropping EC? Possibly. Less extreme use of EC? Yes.

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

I’ve been getting tired of the EC dropping, I think I’m going to take it easy from now on and just visit blogs, and drop as I want. I’ll still always drop certain blogs that have been dropping me for quite awhile, but that’s about it.

ExtremeTechie I may drop a little more, maybe 300 for a little while  since it’s just starting out, but I’m not too worried about traffic to this site anymore. I get some from search engines and advertising. Constant dropping of 300 cards a day is tiresome, and it provides very little good traffic to my site. I know a lot of people that now read my site came from EC, but I’m finding it’s just not worth it to stress over dropping all the time.

In due time I may completely drop EC from this site so I can use some other advertising. That might be awhile yet, and like I said I will continue to use EC, but not to the extreme extent I was.

I expect my popularity rating to plumet, but I don’t really care much, popularity rating really doesn’t mean anything.

A bigger reason is that I was finding dropping EC was taking up too much time, time that could have been spent blogging. So, I’m trading EC dropping for more posts on the site.

New blog launched EXTREMETechie.com

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I have a brand new blog located at ExtremeTechie.com. Feel free to check it out, I’ll be adding Entrecard as soon as they approve me.

This blog will focus on the random stuff that I have been posting here or the stuff that is just ranting. Really, I want this blog to stay more on topic and not go off into never never land :D

Don’t worry, I will still be posting here quite often when it’s most definitely technology related.

Tweaking and tweaking, Apache & MySQL – Not going well.

Monday, January 19th, 2009

These past few days I have been trying to tweak as much as possible with Apache and MySQL to get them to run right on my low memory 128MB VPS. This idea just didn’t work. The amount of traffic hitting my site it just couldn’t put up with. It crashed, crashed, and crashed some more. I didn’t feel like switching EVERYTHING around since ISPConfig doesn’t work with Lighttpd. So, I went the lazy route. I just upgraded the ram from 128MB to 256MB. It *should* be fine now, I will still be tweaking Apache & MySQL a bit more to see which config works the best with my new amount of memory. The VPS is still pretty cheap, I pay about $8/mo. No big deal there.

Remember, it’s not just Apache & MySQL that’s running on this box. I have my ircd, mail, php, ispconfig, the OS etc also running. It all consumes memory :D It’s not that I get a ton of traffic, but when 5-10 people hit my site at once, it goes down.

If anyone can give me suggestions on various MySQL & Apache configs, that would be appreciated, I have scoured the net to look for different configs, and when I find one that works well, I will post it here.

So far, it seems like my problems are pretty much solved, but I’d still like to tweak a bit to get the most out of it.

Thank you. :)

IRC is up irc.technologyinsanity.com port 6667 #TechnologyInsanity

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I’ve launched my IRC server at irc.technologyinsanity.com, the chat channel is #TechnologyInsanity. It’s a little rough right now, I may switch the IRC server/services later, if there’s any interest. It’s fine for now.

On a side note, the forums are there as well,  which I notice no one has really bothered with besides Rise Of Despair. We are having loads of fun talking to ourselves :)

Anyway just a reminder these services are available if you want to pop by.
