Back to Using Entrecard

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I took quite a big break from using Entrecard, but now I’ve decided to use it again. I have not done any SEO on this site, so the traffic is laughable. Why haven’t I done SEO on this site? I spend my time doing SEO on sites that would actually make money.

Even if this site did have traffic, again the income would be laughable. So eh… Entrecard is a good enough source of traffic to bring some readers I guess. It’s also possible I’ll get a few links for top dropper day or whatever, which will help SEO a little, anyway.

MIT Lectures For Free

Monday, September 14th, 2009

This is pretty awesome that they’re doing this. I just started to watch this first video, and when I get the time I think I’ll go through all the lectures they’ve put up. I have not yet gone to college, I screwed up and didn’t learn how to drive in time for college. So for this year I’m just doing affiliate marketing full time. Well, that’s not an entirely bad thing since I make $2 – 3K profit per month. I might be able to push further with it since I have the time, but that’s getting a bit off topic :)

Anyway, when I do go to college I’m going to be looking at programming. (Right now I only know some scripting languages & VB.NET) So these videos might be a good intro for me.

Here’s the first one.

White Knight SEO

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Lots of chatter lately about White Knight SEO. What are they doing? They want to help expose scams on the internet. Hmm… I see a problem with that, since when you search for anything related to one of these “scam” products a bunch of stuff comes up already showing that the product is a scam.

So what good is it when there’s already a bunch of stuff there? I sense the entire thing is just link bait. I’m not going to link to any of these sites in their “White Knight” SEO plans. I can, however give you a plain text link that you can copy into your navigation bar.

This one is actually a better description of what’s going on.

Just another stupid thing some SEOs are doing..

New WordPress Permalink Exploit or Hack

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Today I found my permalinks were all screwed up, and guess what I found another admin popped up from who knows where. :) Was easy enough to fix once I found this article, http://www.journeyetc.com/2009/09/04/wordpress-permalink-rss-problems/.

I’ve been looking around the net to try and find the actual exploit (milw0rm, packetstorm etc.) haven’t been able to find it. I’m guessing it’s private still. Hopefully wordpress fixes this issue soon because from what I’ve read all versions of wordpress are vulnerable right now.

That of course can’t be good can it? Regardless, I’ve went through and upgraded everything possible including plugins, wordpress, and I upgraded some things on my server. In the mean time I’m going to look around for anything else that was messed with and change some things :)

Anyone else hit with this?

UPDATE: Seems like there was some confusion about which versions of WordPress are effected, it seems you’re safe so long as you’re running 2.8.4. When my blog was attacked, I was running WP 2.8.3. Usually I update right away, this time I didn’t. That’s what I get for slacking off :)
