Screw Google?

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Well, you would never say anything like that UNTIL you become a webmaster. At that point, you begin to realize what Google really is. Google is an advertising company at heart. They want total control of all advertising on the Internet. I read something at nukeit.org not long ago about Google that started to change my views: http://nukeit.org/burning-the-bridge-to-nowhere/ This type of thing is NOT uncommon. Google is known for just running off with adsense earnings at their discretion.

I still wasn’t completely convinced that Google was doing evil. I mean I had used Google for years back when I wasn’t a webmaster or affiliate marketer. No complaints. It seems like when you start to get involved working with Google that things go down hill. I mean, the user base thinks everything is great, because they don’t have to talk to Google or associate with them in any way.

Note: All of the following are owned by Google if you didn’t know already.

YouTube

Doing a little poking around, there are massive complaints from people that actually upload videos to YouTube now that it’s owned by Google. They have some issues with randomly deleting accounts and not giving warnings, also leaving the user no easy way to contact them besides phone or snail mail. You had better not bother, because they are known to just ignore you :)

Whether your videos are copyrighted or not, if they don’t like you, you’ll be purged.

Blogger

You want to know why I will never blog or have a website based off of blogger? They will delete your entire blog and all your work if they don’t like you :) A lot of the time it is related to violation of their TOS but I’ve found instances where there was no violation of TOS and the blog was deleted. Myself, I will never ever run a blog on a “free” blogging account. I like to have confidence that it will always be there. I might be even more extreme though since I don’t even trust shared hosts. I run my websites off of my VPS.

Google ranked WORST in privacy

Conclusion

Maybe I’m just rambling here, and maybe Google actually does “no evil” however, the evidence suggests otherwise.

Do you trust Google? (I realize the irony in these videos being hosted on YouTube :) )

Old Tech Rememberance

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

On occasion I find myself looking at old computers on the Internet, and wonder what it would be like to live back in those times with a DOS computer or a Commodore 64. I have looked back farther than that, and there are some really interesting computers, that filled entire rooms. That’s mainly because they were using vacuum tubes instead of transistors. Current processors use 200 Million+ transistors each. That’s a lot, it’s no wonder vacuum tubes took entire buildings to make such a slow processor. Vacuum tubes are big and bulky, and they died rather easily.

The invention of the transistor in 1947 changed things forever. Right now it’s more of a “how small can we make the transistors”. Well they’re making them super small, seeing as they can fit 4 processor cores or more on a single chip. I find all this very impressive. We’ve come a long way with processors, but still have a long way to go. There’s no telling what computers and processors will be able to do in the future.

I for one am glad to be alive and able to witness some of the advancements. My first computer had about 233MHz and Windows 95. At the time, it was supposed to be a “top of the line” computer gaming system. That was when I was 6 or 7, and I’m still young at only 18 and guess what I’m running a quad core processor with 2.4 GHz power on each core with 4GB of memory. Quite astounding the advancement in such a short period of time.

When I was born, the Internet was just getting started. Didn’t even quite form yet, and look at it now. It’s enormous, and growing every day. This is what makes me happy to be alive, technology is almost my life force. Without computers, I guess I’d be tinkering with radios or printers. Printing machines used to be enormous and required some one with quite a lot of knowledge to maintain them.

Anyway that’s my rant for today. You bet I’m a technology geek, and I’m proud of it.

BluCigs: A Legitimate E-Cigarette Affiliate Program?

Monday, May 11th, 2009

BluCigs.com contacted me today, they are brand new. They are looking for affiliates obviously, and my website traffic does match for e-cigarettes. Probably because that’s all I rank for on Google :) Anyway, they offer 20% per sale which is pretty good. Another thing, their product doesn’t look scammy AT ALL to me. It looks like an awesome E-Cig that I’ll have to try out at some point.

All that complaining I was doing in my last post seems like I actually can “have it my way”. I really don’t like promoting really scammish products. This one doesn’t look at all like a scam. Their prices are completely within reason for an e-cig, and what’s more, it looks like a really cool product. It charges your e-cig a few times from the pack they give you. You can charge on the go! It only does this about 7 times, but hey, still awesome. The batteries they are using are the newest lithium ion batteries and last the regular amount, somewhat similar to a janty dura-c or a dse901.

Why does this make me excited? After looking at  Smoking Everywhere and MyInLife (Which seem to be the only ones that offer any kind of payout) I was kind of disgusted at their product. That’s why you see me debating in my last post. This program is NOT MLM, which I really despise to be honest. It’s just a regular affiliate program :)

I will be buying this product at some point to test it out for myself, but there are already some preliminary reviews here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/15761-new-here-anyone-heard-blu-e-cigs.html and they’re positive. (Look towards the end of that thread)

So check out this new e-cig here: Blu Electronic Cigarettes

MyInLife Electronic Cigarette Affiliate Program

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Ok, so I joined the myinlife electronic cigarette affiliate program. Yea they’re overpriced and maybe not as good as a DSE901 or Dura-C. Maybe they are, I haven’t tried them. All I know is I want to get the word out about Electronic Cigarettes, and if you want to call me greedy go ahead. My purpose is not really greed, I just want to get the word out like I said. Doing that takes time and effort, and maybe I would rather be paid for my efforts.

It’s not to get users started on the wrong foot either, I think these can be compared closely to a DSE901. No matter what, it spreads the word about E-Cigs and I’m all for that. I think more and more people should know about them. Who’s to say InLife E-Cigs aren’t a good product anyway? Surely not me because I haven’t bought one. Maybe I will if I earn enough through them and then give a review. I’ll tell you what, if there was an affiliate program for the Janty Dura-C and every other E-Cig I would be the first to promote them. Guess what? There’s not. So I’m stuck. Either I promote through MLM and get paid, or I promote for free. Promoting for free doesn’t pay the bills :( Also, PPC costs money to run and if I’m  not getting paid to drive traffic and spread the word then I’m LOSING money.

Anyway, this program is MLM, or multi-level marketing. If I make a sale then I get $30, I would also make money from referrals when they make money. Pretty much like a pyramid scheme, no? The thing to keep in mind is you will get your $30 per sale whether you refer people or not. It only costs $30 to sign up, and if you make one sale you’ll get $30.

Another thing to consider is that if you do get referrals/buys  you’ll be smoking e-cigs for free in a way.

I spoke to someone about this and some do claim InLife E-Cigs are high quality, but I don’t know. I’m just upset there aren’t more affiliate programs for e-cigs I’m familiar with. That’s life, you can’t always “Have it your way” like Burger King :)
